Friday Updates

Hope last night's game treated you all well.  Despite LeSean McCoy's monster performance, I have to say sorry Eagles fans, your season is officially done.

SEA - WR Sidney Rice to be placed on IR
Source: The Seattle Times - Danny O'Neil
Seattle Seahawks WR Sidney Rice (concussion) will be placed in Injured Reserve, ending his 2011 season.

Two concussions over the last three weeks and now Rice is shut down for the year. This will open the door for WR Doug Baldwin to become the featured target in the Seahawks' passing game.

CHI - QB Jay Cutler could be done for year
Source: ESPNChicago.com - Michael C. Wright
Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (thumb) acknowledged that he could be lost for the season after undergoing surgery on his broken thumb last week. He is refusing to put a timetable on his recovery process. Three screws and two pins were put into his thumb to stabilize the fracture. Doctors could remove the screws and pins 'anytime after three weeks, (but they could stay) up to 10 weeks.' Cutler will have X-rays and scans over the next few weeks to see if his bone is healing properly.

I have a gut feeling that the re-engagement to Kristin Cavallari isn't a coincidence with his injury.  Not holding my breath for Jay to come back this year.  It's looking more and more like Caleb Hanie or bust for Chicago.

DET - RB Kevin Smith taking part in drills
Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman
Detroit Lions RB Kevin Smith (ankle) was taking part in individual drills during practice Thursday, Dec. 1, and was working with the first-team offense.

According to the report Smith was not at full strength, but it looks as though he may be able to play in week 13 against the Saints.

MIN - RB Adrian Peterson does not have to be 100 percent to play
Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Mark Craig
Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (ankle) said he has played injured before and does not have to be 100 percent in order to play in Week 13.

His playing status for the game against the Broncos is unknown at this time. Many close to the team expect Peterson to miss this week's game.

PHI - QB Michael Vick ruled out
Source: KFFL.com
Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick (ribs) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 30, and has been ruled out for Week 13.

Vick misses another game with this injury, and Vince Young will take his place as the starter on Thursday night against the Seahawks.

SF - RB Frank Gore limited in practice
Source: 49ers.com
San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore (ankle) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Gore has one of the best running back matchups of the week, making him a must play in a week riddled with bad matchups for some of the better backs in the league.

MIA - WR Brandon Marshall briefly detained
Source: South Florida Times - Elgin Jones
Miami Dolphins WR Brandon Marshall was briefly detained at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Wednesday, Nov. 30, by Broward County Sheriff’Office deputies when he was accused of fleeing to evade paying a $142 cab fare. Marshall claimed it was a communication issue due to the cab driver’s accent, and eventually ended up paying the fare. He was then released from custody.

Marshall's behavior sounds bizarre and it makes us wonder if another incident is around the bend for the troubled receiver.

NYG - Victor Cruz practices
Source: KFFL.com
Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (hip) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 1.

Cruz has emerged as a must start and has a great matchup this week against the Packers.

NYG - WR Mario Manningham unsure if injury will end season
Source: The Star-Ledger - Mike Garafolo
New York Giants WR Mario Manningham (knee) said there are things floating around in his knee and is not ruling out the possibility of undergoing season-ending surgery. Head coach Tom Coughlin said Manningham has received treatment on the knee but it has not shown much improvement.

Things floating around in his knee is not a good sign for the veteran wideout. With the emergence of Victor Cruz fantasy owners in shallow leagues can look elsewhere for WR help as we near the fantasy playoffs.

NYG - WR Hakeem Nicks not practicing
Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Matt Ehalt
New York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks (ribs, concussion) was not participating during the media-access portion of practice Thursday, Dec. 1. Nicks has passed his concussion tests.

Doctors just wanted to be safe here with Nicks and make sure he was symptom free before another day of practice. He should be good to go for the game against the Packers on Sunday.

NYG - RB Ahmad Bradshaw working on side
Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Matt Ehalt
New York Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) was doing some light running on the sidelines but was not participating in practice Thursday, Dec. 1. He said he plans to play in Week 13.

According to head coach Tom Coughlin, Bradshaw will have to practice before he can play. We'll see if Bradshaw gets into practice tomorrow and becomes available for a huge game against the Packers on Sunday.

ARI - QB Kevin Kolb expects to play
Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban
Arizona Cardinals QB Kevin Kolb (toe) said he took all of the first-team reps during practice Wednesday, Nov. 30, and expects to start in Week 12.

The Cardinals have been struggling to pass the ball since Kolb has been out. Second-year QB John Skelton started off hot but has cooled down considerably over the last two weeks.

DEN - RB Willis McGahee returns to practice
Source: The Denver Post - Lindsay Jones
Denver Broncos RB Willis McGahee (illness) returned to practice Thursday, Dec. 1, after missing practice with an illness Wednesday, Nov. 30. McGahee is expected to play in Week 12.

McGahee has shown great toughness this year playing through injuries almost every week. There's a good chance he goes over 100-yards rushing again in week 13, and we see him as a RB2 with upside in fantasy leagues.

DAL - Owner says WR Miles Austin not looking good for Week 13
Source: The Dallas Morning News - Jon Machota
Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones indicated WR Miles Austin (hamstring) likely will not be able to play in Week 13 because he has missed two days of practice.

Austin isn't quite ready to come back from his hamstring injury, and this means more Laurent Robinson once again this week.

OAK - Denarius Moore does not practice
Source: KFFL.com
Oakland Raiders WR Denarius Moore (foot) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Early reports had him back at practice, but it looks like his owners will have to wait for better news to have a shot to use him this week.

OAK - RB Darren McFadden not on practice field
Source: KFFL.com
Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden (foot) was unable to practice Wednesday, Nov. 30.

McFadden won't be back this week, and he is no sure thing to be back for week 14.

BAL - WR Lee Evans a bigger part of offense
Source: SportingNews.com - Mike Preston
Baltimore Ravens WR Lee Evans (ankle) is completely healthy, and the team is incorporating more plays that will involve him in the offense.

With Evans and rookie WR Torrey Smith the Ravens should have no problem stretching the field. We're not expecting much from Evans even though he may get a few more looks from week to week.

GB - RB James Starks injury update
Source: Green Bay Press-Gazette - Kareem Copeland
Green Bay Packers RB James Starks (ankle) said he would like to practice this week; however, he does not know what his availability will be after suffering an ankle injury in Week 12. 'I’m doing good,' Starks said. 'I think it helped a lot to get a couple days off. Get to rest a little bit, do some treatment and come back healthy.' Starks downplayed his latest injury. 'It’s nothing horrible,' Starks said. 'Obviously, the knee was more of a concern because I was bent up and things like that and it felt weird a certain ways, but that went away fast. Nothing’s really a big deal.'

The Packers may limit Starks in practice as he recovers from this ankle injury. They could be saving him for a playoff run when they may need to run the football more.

DAL - WR Dez Bryant to be full-time punt returner
Source: SportingNews.com - Clarence Hill
Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant is expected to serve as the full-time punt returner in Week 13 against the Arizona Cardinals. He'll replace WR Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, who had served as the primary punt returner in the past few weeks, but was released Wednesday, Nov. 30.

There is an increased injury risk, but Bryant is such a talented punt returner that it can add value in leagues that reward return TDs.

OAK - WR Jacoby Ford does not practice
Source: KFFL.com
Oakland Raiders WR Jacoby Ford (foot) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Ford did run on the side, so he should be held in anticipation of the Detroit and Green Bay matchups coming up in the fantasy playoffs.

TB - QB Josh Freeman limited
Source: KFFL.com
Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Josh Freeman (shoulder) was limited in practice Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Freeman's status vs. the Panthers weak defense is up in the air, but he has been too inconsistent to trust even if in a good matchup, even if he was healthy.

BUF - WR Brad Smith the No. 2 wideout
Source: SportingNews.com - Jay Skurski
Buffalo Bills WR Brad Smith has become the team's No. 2 receiver behind WR Stevie Johnson. Smith caught four passes for 77 yards and a touchdown in Week 12 against the New York Jets.

Smith's TD was a very savvy play, but one unlikely to be reproduced. He is only worth an add in very deep leagues.

HOU - TE Owen Daniels practices
Source: AtlantaFalcons.com
Houston Texans TE Owen Daniels (knee) practiced in full Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Daniels fared better with Taylor Yates than he did with Matt Leinart last week, so his value could get closer to its previous levels this week.

HOU - WR Andre Johnson limited
Source: KFFL.com
Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson (knee) was limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 1.

First a hamstring injury and now this. The knee injury may not prevent him from suiting up this weekend against the Falcons. However, it's a real concern that needs to be monitored closely by Johnson's fantasy owners.

ARI - Beanie Wells limited
Source: AZCardinals.com
Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (knee) was limited during practice Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Wells was limited last week and had a monster game. It's a more difficult matchup for the Cardinals this week as they face the Cowboys. We like Wells as a RB2 with upside.

CLE - RB Peyton Hillis practices
Source: KFFL.com
Cleveland Browns RB Peyton Hillis (hamstring) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Hillis looked like his old self last week, but has a tough matchup against Baltimore this week. We like him as a low end RB2 or flex option in week 13.

STL - WR Danario Alexander practices
Source: St. Louis Post-Dispatch - Kathleen Nelson
St. Louis Rams WR Danario Alexander (hamstring) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Nov. 30.

The Rams need a guy like Alexander to get healthy and elevate his game. The team is desperately searching for a complementary receiver on the opposite side of Brandon Lloyd.

CIN - RB Cedric Benson misses practice
Source: KFFL.com
Cincinnati Bengals RB Cedric Benson (foot) did not practice Thursday, Dec. 1.

There's no strong buzz that Benson will miss the game vs. the Steelers, but you probably wanted to bench for it anyway. The real reason to follow this development is to see if Bernard Scott might get the start and present flex value.

MIN - WR Percy Harvin, WR Devin Aromashodu to start
Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Mark Craig
Minnesota Vikings WRs Percy Harvin and Devin Aromashodu will be the starting lineup in Week 13. WR Greg Camarillo will be the third receiver and WR Stephen Burton will also see time at the position.

We may also see QB Joe Webb get worked in as a WR against the Broncos on Sunday.

NYJ - RB Shonn Greene practices
Source: NewYorkJets.com
New York Jets RB Shonn Greene (rib) practiced in full Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Greene should look more like himself this week, and makes for a low end RB2 option against the Redskins in week 13.

HOU - Have not decided on No. 2 QB
Source: HoustonTexans.com - Nick Scurfield
Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said the team will decide whether QB Kellen Clemens or QB Jake Delhomme will be the No. 2 quarterback by the end of the week.

Delhomme was just added to the roster, while Clemens has been there about a week. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Clemens as the primary backup behind rookie T.J. Yates.

MIN - QB Joe Webb expected to see time at WR
Source: 1500ESPN.com - Tom Pelissero
Minnesota Vikings QB Joe Webb is expected to see time at wide receiver this week.

The Vikings are getting thin at the WR position since Michael Jenkins is now out for the year. Webb was originally going to switch to a WR when he turned pro, but Minnesota has kept him around as a QB.

DEN - Von Miller might miss Week 13 game
Source: The Denver Post - Mike Klis and Lindsay Jones
Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos LB Von Miller (thumb) has vowed to play in Week 13 against the Minnesota Vikings after having thumb surgery Tuesday, Nov. 29. Normally this type of thumb injury would keep the player out at least a week. LB Mario Haggan might see a bigger role if Miller is sidelined.

No pass rusher was more dangerous so far this year than Miller, so his absence would greatly affect the Broncos, although they can certainly still hang with a Vikings team currently slated to pick second in the draft.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger hurts thumb at practice\
Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Gerry Dulac
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (thumb) hurt his injured thumb while take a snap during practice Thursday, Dec. 1, but said he should be fine.

He missed the final portion of practice because of this thumb injury but is expected to play this week against the Bengals.

DET - QB Matthew Stafford will not use a glove
Source: CBSSports.com
Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (finger) confirmed that he’ll play in Week 13 without the glove protecting a fractured finger on his throwing hand. Stafford admitted that playing without the glove should have a positive effect on his passing. '(Playing without the glove) will be different,' Stafford said. 'It’ll be a little more normal for me.'

Not many QBs can throw well with a glove on their throwing hand. Kurt Warner was the rare exception.

NYJ - RB LaDainian Tomlinson expects to play
Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Jane McManus
New York Jets RB LaDainian Tomlinson (knee) is feeling fresh and expects to play against the Washington Redskins in Week 13. Tomlinson could be used more with RB Shonn Greene (rib) banged up.

Joe McKnight's value is diminishing.
