Week 14: Midweek Roundup

Playoffs should be starting for most of you this week. Best of luck

CHI - Coach expects RB Matt Forte to return this season
Source: Chicago Tribune - Vaughn McClure
Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith said he believes RB Matt Forte (knee) will be able to play again at some point this season.

While Forte is out we'll see Marion Barber and Khalil Bell split time in the backfield. Forte is expected to miss 2-4 weeks with his knee injury.

CHI - RB Matt Forte’s ACL fine
Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
Updating previous reports, Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte’s (knee) MRI did not reveal any damage to his anterior cruciate ligament.

Forte could possibly return to the lineup for the playoffs, and is expected to miss 2-4 weeks.

HOU - WR Andre Johnson day-to-day
Source: Twitter
Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said WR Andre Johnson (knee) is considered day-to-day because of a mild hamstring injury. Kubiak said Johnson is expected to return soon but the team will know more at practice Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Johnson may miss a couple of weeks because of this latest injury. In the meantime we'll see more from Jacoby Jones and Kevin Walter while Johnson is out.

MIN - RB Adrian Peterson getting close to returning
Source: 1500ESPN.com
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said RB Adrian Peterson (ankle) is very close to returning but the team will know more on his status during practice Wednesday, Dec. 7.

There are some who feel Peterson could be in danger of missing the rest of the season. We'll see if he can return to practice on Wednesday. If Peterson continues to miss time then we'll see Toby Gerhart get the start.

NYJ - WR Plaxico Burress racking up first downs
Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini
New York Jets WR Plaxico Burress has converted 85.3 percent of his catches into first downs this season, which ranks third in the NFL in the category.

Burress hasn't garnered many headlines for it, but he looks like old Plax, even after two years of incarceration. The Jets will still be looking to groom a future #2 receiver, but for now, it's Burress's job.

NYJ - QB Mark Sanchez having trouble connecting with WR Santonio Holmes
Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini
New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez has completed only 37 of his 72 passes thrown to WR Santonio Holmes in the 26 games played together. Both have said they are working on trying to improve their chemistry.

This has been a surprise because the two seemed to work so well together last year. Stick with Holmes as a flex or WR3 vs. the Chiefs coming off of his touchdown day vs. the Redskins.

DEN - WR Demaryius Thomas said MIN forgot about him on last catch
Source: The Denver Post - Mike Klis
Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas said he was wide open for his last catch for 40 yards because the Minnesota Vikings were playing a Cover 2 defense and the safety went to cover WR Eric Decker instead of him. 'They were playing cover 2,' Thomas said. 'One safety would cover Deck on top because he's been our big receiver. They kind of forgot about me.'

In other words, defense are still treating Eric Decker like the #1 receiver. Decker is still the better play vs. the Bears, but if Thomas outproduces him again this week, the pendulum may swing his way.

TEN - WR Nate Washington expected to play
Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt
Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said WR Nate Washington (ankle) is considered day-to-day but is expected to play in Week 14. Washington underwent an MRI on the ankle but the results are not known at this point.

Damian Williams has surpassed Washington as the Titans #1 receiver with Kenny Britt on IR, so he's the play vs. the Saints even if Washington can go.

DAL - WR Miles Austin expected to practice
Source: ESPNDallas.com - Calvin Watkins
Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin (hamstring) is expected to practice Wednesday, Dec. 7, and is expected to play in Week 14 if he does have any setbacks.

Austin should return to the lineup this week, and it will be interesting to see how the targets are split between him, Dez Bryant, and Laurent Robinson.

TB - QB Josh Johnson injured Week 13
Source: St. Petersburg Times - Rick Stroud
Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Josh X. Johnson (shoulder) suffered a separated shoulder in Week 13 but only missed one play in order to have the shoulder put back into place.

Johnson looked good against the Panthers on Sunday and could get another start for the team if Josh Freeman continues to miss time because of a shoulder injury.

OAK - RB Darren McFadden not around facility
Source: The Oakland Tribune - Steve Corkran
Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden (foot) was not seen on the practice field with trainers or in the locker room Monday, Dec. 5, and it does not appear like he will be able to play Week 14. He could be available to play Week 15 if he is able to show improvement.

Some thought McFadden would be back this week, but that doesn't seem to be the case right now. He'll have to get back into game shape and now could be targeting a return in week 15 against the Lions.

OAK - Taiwan Jones may be able to play Week 14
Source: The Oakland Tribune - Steve Corkran
Oakland Raiders RB Taiwan Jones (hamstring) could be able to practice by the end of the week and play in Week 14. Jones did some agility drills Monday, Dec. 5, and said his hamstring is at 75 to 80 percent at this point.

The Raiders need to get healthy and get back on the winning track if they want to make it to the postseason. They are currently tied with the Broncos for first place in the AFC West, but Denver has the tiebreaker over them.

JAX - WR Taylor Price claimed
Source: Boston Herald - Ian Rapoport
The Jacksonville Jaguars have claimed free-agent WR Taylor Price (Patriots) off waivers.

Price was supposed to develop into the Patriots' deep threat, but failed to play up to his potential. Jacksonville has one of the worst WR corps in the league, so adding Price makes sense.

GB - RB James Starks may miss practice Wednesday
Source: Twitter
Green Bay Packers RB James Starks (ankle) has an ankle sprain and may have to sit out practice Wednesday, Dec. 7.

The Packers don't really have a commitment to the ground game and they won't rush Starks back from this latest injury.

GB - TE Andrew Quarless out for season
Source: Twitter
Green Bay Packers TE Andrew Quarless (knee) will miss the rest of the season because of a knee injury he suffered in Week 13.

With the loss of Quarless we could see a few more looks for rookie TE D.J. Williams.

NYJ - RB LaDainian Tomlinson expected to play
Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta
New York Jets RB LaDainian Tomlinson (knee) is expected to play in Week 14 despite aggravating his medial collateral ligament injury.

Tomlinson's touches could be limited this week as he got twisted up against the Redskins. This could give more opportunity to second-year RB Joe McKnight, provided that he can play through an elbow injury.

STL - QB A.J. Feeley has fractured thumb
Source: Twitter
St. Louis Rams QB A.J. Feeley (thumb) has a small fracture on his thumb and his status for Week 14 is uncertain at this point.

The Rams are in trouble at the QB position as their regular starter Sam Bradford is still dealing with an ankle injury.

WAS - QB Rex Grossman will remain starter
Source: Twitter
Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said QB Rex Grossman said will start in Week 14.

Grossman has looked better than John Beck, but that's not saying much. At least Grossman will go down the field and not check down 15+ times per game the way Beck did.

CLE - RB Peyton Hillis has hip injury
Source: The Associated Press
Cleveland Browns RB Peyton Hillis (hip) strained his hip in Week 13 and is being listed as day-to-day.

Hillis just came back from a hamstring injury last week, and now is dealing with a hip injury. He's a tough runner, but absorbs a lot of punishment when he runs. His playing status for week 14 is uncertain at this time.

CLE - QB Colt McCoy has sprained knee
Source: The Associated Press
Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy (knee) is dealing with a sprained knee, but he is not expected to miss any time. Head coach Pat Shurmur doesn't think McCoy will sit out against the Pittsburgh Steelers in their Week 14 game Thursday, Dec. 8.

If McCoy can't play (or gets knocked out) against the Steelers then we'd see veteran Seneca Wallace under center for the Browns.

NYJ - Joe McKnight’s Week 14 status uncertain
Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he is not sure if RB Joe McKnight (elbow) will be able to play in Week 14.

Both McKnight and LaDainian Tomlinson (knee) are banged up. This could give more opportunity to rookie RB Bilal Powell.
