Week 11: Midweek Roundup

Jets vs. Broncos tomorrow night. Get your lineups set folks. We have a lot to cover this week, so let's get started.

NYJ - RB LaDainian Tomlinson won't play
Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta
Updating previous reports, New York Jets RB LaDainian Tomlinson (knee) said he didn't suffer a setback in practice Tuesday, Nov. 15, but he reportedly has been ruled out for Week 11. Head coach Rex Ryan said Tomlinson would be a game-time decision if he travels with the team Wednesday, Nov. 16. He expects to be fully ready to play in Week 12 against the Buffalo Bills.

Joe McKnight will get some change of pace carries behind starter Shonn Greene. Rookie Bilal Powell will be active for the first time this year, and could get a few carries.

ARI - QB Kevin Kolb doubtful for Week 11
Source: NFL Network - Jason La Canfora
Arizona Cardinals QB Kevin Kolb (toe) is doubtful to play in the team's Week 11 game. In addition to turf toe, Kolb is dealing with ligament damage, a bone bruise and sprain in his foot.

The Cardinals QB controversy will continue to grow if John Skelton keeps playing like he has the last two weeks. The old rule of 'you don't lose your job to injury' may not apply here as Skelton has clearly looked better than Kolb did earlier this year.

DAL - DeMarco Murray likely to receive bulk of carries
Source: The Dallas Morning News - Brandon George
Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday, Nov. 15, that RB DeMarco Murray will likely receive the bulk of the carries once RB Felix Jones (ankle) returns. Jones is expected to return in Week 11. 'One thing that comes to my mind that Murray looks like the more he carries the more effective he gets. If you think of that theoretically about a workhorse running back that they get better as the game goes along,' Jones said. 'Felix, and this is not negative in any way, Felix has always been a guy that he looks like the best way for him to be his best is to inject him in spots and so we may have a guy here in Murray who can carry a lot of carries and we may have a guy in Felix that can step in there and carry it 13 times a ballgame and really have a chance to break it.'

Jones can be utilized effectively as a receiver out of the backfield and change of pace runner. There's no need to have a drastic cut into Murray's touches.

NYJ - CB Darrelle Revis calls Denver's offense boring
Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta
New York Jets CB Darrelle Revis thinks the secondary will become bored in their Week 11 matchup with the Denver Broncos Thursday, Nov. 17, because of their tendency to run the ball often. 'The biggest thing for the secondary is for us not to fall asleep,' Revis said after practice on Tuesday. 'We can't fall asleep back there in the secondary. It can get boring, especially if a team keeps on just running the ball, series after series, play after play.'

Revis had better not fall asleep in the secondary or he could get burned on a big play to Eric Decker. The Broncos aren't a passing team, and that takes away the impact CB Darrelle Revis could have on this game.

SF - RB Frank Gore may not be pushed
Source: San Francisco Chronicle - Eric Branch
San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh gave the indication that he may not push RB Frank Gore (knee) in Week 11 with RBsKendall Hunter and Anthony Dixon more than capable of carrying the load. 'I would plan on (Gore) playing, but you just feel like right now that we've got a stable of backs,' Harbaugh said. 'We've got Frank Gore. We've got Kendall Hunter. We've got fresh legs in Anthony Dixon. This bodes really well for our football team.' The team has a short week in Week 12 against the Baltimore Ravens, which may be even more reason to rest Gore.

The 49ers have visions of playing deep into January. In order to do that they need Gore to stay healthy. As the fantasy playoffs approach we could see a reduced workload for Gore, and an increased workload for rookie Kendall Hunter.

DEN - RB Willis McGahee not a lock to play
Source: The Denver Post - Lindsay Jones
Denver Broncos RB Willis McGahee (hamstring) went through warmups and stretching Tuesday, Nov. 15, but didn't take part in individual drills in practice open to the media, and he is questionable to play in the team's Week 11 game versus the New York Jets Thursday, Nov. 17.

If McGahee can't play we'll see the Broncos use Lance Ball as their starter. They just activated Jeremiah Johnson off the practice squad and he could see some time behind Ball.  And of course, we have Tebow himself.

DET - WR Calvin Johnson targeted whopping 19 times
Source: MLive.com - Anwar Richardson
Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson had seven receptions for 81 yards in Week 10 against the Chicago Bears, even though he was targeted a whopping 19 times. He also did not find the end zone for just the second game in nine starts this season. Johnson also lost a fumble in the loss, his first since 2009.

Johnson just wasn't sharp (like the rest of the Lions). It is heartening that he can have that kind of stat line in his worst game in a long time.  Must start.

HOU - QB Matt Schaub to miss rest of season
Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
Updating a previous report, Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub (foot) will miss the rest of the season because of a Lisfranc injury in his foot according to ESPN's Adam Schefter

A huge blow to the Texans and Schaub's fantasy owners here. Houston has visions of playing deep into January, but it will be tough to make a championship run without Schaub. Matt Leinart is now going to act as the Texans starting QB. Getting Andre Johnson back from his hamstring injury will help Leinart in is starting role.

It's worth noting that the Texans are disputing this report saying that it has not yet been determined that Schaub will miss the rest of the season. Stay tuned.

KC - QB Matt Cassel could miss rest of season
Source: The Kansas City Star - Kent Babb
Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel’s (hand) hand injury is more serious than initially believed and may miss the rest of the season because of the injury. Head coach Todd Haley said the injury is significant and that Cassel will need surgery.

Cassel was battered by the Broncos defense last week and rookie LB Von Miller. If he misses time the Chiefs would turn to journeyman Tyler Palko as their starter.

KC - QB Tyler Palko to start Week 11
Source: The Kansas City Star - Kent Babb
Kansas City Chiefs QB Tyler Palko will start in Week 11 in place of injured QB Matt Cassel (hand). Palko is expected to be the starter as long as Cassel is out of the lineup.

Palko is a southpaw with scrambling ability. He played for the Pitt Panthers in college and was the reason Joe Flacco transferred to Delaware. We're not expecting much from him fantasy wise, and this move should downgrade the entire Chiefs passing game.

DEN - RB Knowshon Moreno injury update
Source: The Denver Post - Lindsay Jones
Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in Week 10 and will miss the rest of the season.

With Moreno out for the year we'll likely see the Broncos add Jeremiah Johnson from their practice squad. Lance Ball will now be the primary backup behind Willis McGahee.

HOU - WR Andre Johnson expected to practice after bye
Source: HoustonTexans.com
Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said he expects WR Andre Johnson (hamstring) to fully participate in practice once the team finishes their bye week.

Johnson's value takes a hit with Matt Schaub out indefinitely and replaced with Matt Leinart, but he's still a WR1 once he returns.

DET - QB Matthew Stafford not 100 percent
Source: The Detroit News - Eric Lacy
Detroit Lions head coach Matthew Stafford (finger) will not be 100 percent healthy heading into the team's Week 11 matchup against the Carolina Panthers, according to head coach Jim Schwartz. It's unclear if Stafford will wear a splint or a glove to protect his injured hand.

Stafford made several bad decisions on Sunday against the Bears. Some mistakes come from the finger injury, and some come from mental decisions.

PHI - CB Nnamdi Asomugha contained WR Larry Fitzgerald
Source: Philly.com - Sheil Kapadia
Philadelphia Eagles CB Nnamdi Asomugha matched up with Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald 20 times out of 46 pass plays in Week 10. On those plays, Fitzgerald was targeted just twice, and both were incompletions.

Too bad the Eagles didn't have Asomugha shadow him the entire game because Fitzgerald had 7 catches for 146 yards and 2 TDs on the day.

DEN - WR Brandon Lloyd deal working out
Source: ESPN.com - Bill Williamson
The Denver Broncos' decision to trade to WR Brandon Lloyd to the St. Louis Rams appears to be paying off. Lloyd has 21 catches, 255 yards and two touchdowns for St. Louis. If Lloyd catches nine more balls this season, the Rams will owe Denver a fifth-round pick in next year’s NFL Draft. If not, the Rams will send Denver a sixth-round pick. The Broncos are also 3-1 since the trade.

It's not surprising that Lloyd would put up good numbers under former Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels. Denver is missing their best 'bad ball' receiver as guys like Eric Decker, Eddie Royal, and Demaryius Thomas can't adjust to errant passes the way Lloyd can. QB Tim Tebow had 2 completions on 8 attempts against the Chiefs, but 5 of those 6 incompletions hit receivers in their hands.

DEN - Rex Ryan gives credit to Tim Tebow
Source: NFL.com
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow may not be the most accomplished passer; however Ryan added Tebow is a competitor and a winner. 'You can go back and when people ask me about him, I thought he was a great competitor and he is a winner, and that's what he's showing right now,' Ryan said. 'Are there prettier passers than him? Yeah, absolutely. But again, (we) just (have to) try to find a way to beat him.'

Ryan's defense gets Tebow and the Broncos on Thursday night. It will be an extra short week of preparation for them as they played the Patriots on Sunday night. Going against Tebow will be a completely different mindset for the Jets, as he's not the passer that Patriots QB Tom Brady is.

WAS - RB Tashard Choice to play in Week 11
Source: The Washington Post
Dallas Cowboys RB Tashard Choice (hamstring) said he will play in the team's Week 11 game.

With Mike Shanahan in charge it wouldn't surprise us to see Choice get into the starting lineup in the near future as Ryan Torain has been a bust all year.

OAK - QB Carson Palmer challenging Denarius Moore
Source: ANG Newspapers - Steve Corkran
Oakland Raiders WR Denarius Moore said QB Carson Palmer has challenged him to become a better wide receiver since joining the team. 'He came in, asked me questions about, How is life, how I wanted to become a wide receiver, what it takes to be a good wide receiver, and then he turned around and asked me if I am willing to take on those challenges, am I willing to take advantage of the opportunity,' Moore said. 'I said ‘yes,’ and took it upon myself to spend some extra time with him, working out. We started to develop some chemistry.'

Moore is a fantastic rookie, and Palmer has built good chemistry with him over the last couple of weeks. With Jacoby Ford banged up we expect to see Moore as the team's leading receiver moving forward.

DET - RB Jahvid Best injury update
Source: CBSSports.com
Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said Monday, Nov. 14, he would not offer a timetable for RB Jahvid Best's (concussion) return; however, he confirmed that Best is still experiencing concussion-like symptoms. Best has been evaluated by multiple physicians in hopes of returning to action.

At this point it looks like Best is still weeks from getting back onto the field. The Lions could feature Kevin Smith more as they look for a more balanced attack.

NYG - RB Ahmad Bradshaw needs to practice to play
Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Ohm Youngmisuk
New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said Monday, Nov. 14, that he wants to see RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) practice and do some things eventually before deciding on his status for Week 11. 'We'll see,' Coughlin said. 'There is no sense speculating. He is going to have to go out and practice. He certainly has had a couple of good solid weeks of rest and hopefully he will be able to do some things. Probably won't know until we get him out there.'

Bradshaw is still probably a week away at least, but he is improving enough to expect him to be back for the fantasy playoffs.

PHI - Andy Reid mum on potential starting QB for Week 11
Source: CSNPhilly.com - Reuben Frank
If Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick (ribs) cannot go in Week 11, head coach Andy Reid wouldn't commit to a replacement Monday, Nov. 14. He declined to say whether QB Vince Young or QB Mike Kafka would get the nod if Vick is out. Young is 2-0 in his career against the New York Giants, the team's Week 11 opponent.

Neither one is worth a start if Vick can't go.

CLE - RB Peyton Hillis ruled out for Week 11
Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot
Cleveland Browns RB Peyton Hillis (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 11. Head coach Pat Shurmur said he believes Hillis will be able to play again this season.

The Browns should also be without RB Montario Hardesty again this week. This means 'Silent G' Chris Ogbonnaya will once again get the start for Cleveland.

Source: The Associated Press
Cleveland Browns RB Chris Ogbonnaya rushed for 90 yards on 19 carries against the St. Louis Rams in Week 10.

Ogbonnaya looked terrible last week, but he bounced back in a big way this week. He might be worth a flex start even though he is facing the underrated Jags run defense.

WAS - TE Fred Davis expects he'll be fine
Source: ESPN980 - Chris Russell
Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis said Sunday, Nov. 13, that he expects to be fine, responding to a report that he was one of 11 NFL players who might be disciplined for testing positive for a banned substance. 'I'm sure all the information will come out,' Davis said. 'I'm sure I'll be fine.'

Let's hope Davis is right here.

CIN - A.J. Green injury update
Source: ProFootballTalk.com
Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (knee) said he suffered a hyperextended knee in Week 10. Green should be fine, according to a league source. Green expressed confidence after the game he’d play in Week 11.

A sigh of relief for the Bengals here. Green is one of the best young receivers in the game, and he gives fellow rookie Andy Dalton a big play weapon to target. It looks like he'll be good to go against the Ravens in week 11.

OAK - RB Darren McFadden sitting out practice
Source: The Oakland Tribune - Steve Corkran
Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden (foot) is not participating in practice Monday, Nov. 14.

McFadden's foot injury may keep him out for longer than originally anticipated. The Raiders will keep utilizing Michael Bush as their lead back while McFadden is out.

WAS - QB Rex Grossman to start Week 11
Source: The Washington Post - Rick Maese
Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said QB Rex Grossman will be the starting quarterback for Week 11.

Grossman didn't win, but he looked better than John Beck. Unlike Beck, Grossman went downfield instead of checking down to the RBs all day.

DAL - WR Laurent Robinson gets into end zone twice
Source: The Associated Press
Dallas Cowboys WR Laurent Robinson caught three passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns against the Buffalo Bills in Week 10.

Robinson didn't have a Bill within 10 yards of him on either TD. He is a WR2 play for as long as Miles Austin is out, which should at least be next week. The Cowboys have no reason to push Austin in his recovery with Robinson doing so well as a substitute starter.

NYG - WR Hakeem Nicks scores in Week 10
Source: KFFL.com
New York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks (hamstring) had two receptions for 41, including a 32-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, in Week 10 against the San Francisco 49ers. The end zone visit was his first since Week 5.

Nicks didn't get targeted or open all that often, but when he did, Manning found him with a perfect deep ball. He should only get healthier for next week's challenging matchup against the Eagles secondary.

NYG - WR Mario Manningham finds end zone
Source: KFFL.com
New York Giants WR Mario Manningham (knee) had six receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown in Week 10 against the San Francisco 49ers. Manningham has visited the end zone in three consecutive games.

Manningham was a game-time decision, but he came through with a back-pylon TD catch for the second straight week. He also could have tied the game late with a bomb that went glancing off of his outstretched fingertips and caused an interception by breaking off a route. He is a WR2 going forward with Eli Manning playing the best football of his career.

CHI - WR Earl Bennett leads way again in Week 10
Source: KFFL.com
Chicago Bears WR Earl Bennett had six receptions for 81 yards in Week 10 against the Detroit Lions, leading the team in receiving for the second straight week since returning from a chest injury.

It's clear that Bennett is the WR1 the Bears have been lacking all year. He caught 2/3 of Cutler's completions and Bennett is a strong WR3 in PPR leagues with a lot of upside.

CHI - RB Matt Forte runs for 64 yards, TD
Source: KFFL.com
Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte carried 18 times for 64 yards and a touchdown in Week 10 against the Detroit Lions. He also added a 3-yard reception.

Forte could have had a bigger day if the Bears didn't run away and hide from the Lions with defensive and return touchdowns. He is still a strong RB1 and he should do well against the Chargers defense that Michael Bush shredded last Thursday.

CHI - QB Jay Cutler completes just nine passes in victory
Source: KFFL.com
Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler completed just 9 of 19 passes for 123 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 10 against the Detroit Lions. He also ran four times for 18 yards and lost a fumble.

The Bears love seeing stat lines like this for Cutler because it means their running game, defense, and special teams carried the day.

SEA - RB Marshawn Lynch runs for 109 yards, TD
Source: KFFL.com
Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch carried 32 times for 109 yards and a touchdown in Week 10 against the Baltimore Ravens. Lynch has back-to-back 100-yard rushing games for the first time in his career. He also added five receptions for 58 yards.

Lynch was undeniable and ran much better than his middling yards per carry indicates. He's an RB2 with RB1 upside in good matchups like the Rams game this week.

BAL - TE Ed Dickson has huge game in Week 10
Source: Carroll County Times - Aaron Wilson
Baltimore Ravens TE Ed Dickson had 10 receptions for 79 yards and two touchdowns in Week 10 against the Seattle Seahawks. Dickson, who played his college ball in the Pacific Northwest at Oregon, hadn't scored since Week 1, when he had 59 yards, his previous yardage high this season. The 10 grabs and two scores were both career highs for Dickson.

Dennis Pitta was emerging as a trusted target from the TE position, now it is Dickson's turn. He is worth a pickup if you are hurting at TE or need to cover a Jimmy Graham or Owen Daniels bye this week.

ATL - QB Matt Ryan productive Week 10
Source: The Associated Press
Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan went 29-for-52 for 351 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Week 10 against the New Orleans Saints.

Ryan had a good fantasy day, but it took 52 attempts and big comeback attempt in the second half. The good news is that he did it without Julio Jones for most of the game. This week, the Falcons face the Titans secondary that shut down Cam Newton.

CAR - Cam Newton struggles in Week 10
Source: The Associated Press
Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton went 23-for-40 for 212 yards and one interception against the Tennessee Titans in Week 10. He also rushed for 55 yards on seven carries in the game.

Newton salvaged a good fantasy day with his running ability and some garbage time passing stats. He struggled as bad as he has all year, but he is still a QB1 as he showed that 15 points is his floor last Sunday.

TEN - RB Chris Johnson has productive game
Source: The Associated Press
Tennessee Titans RB Chris Johnson rushed for 130 yards and one touchdown on 27 carries against the Carolina Panthers in Week 10.

Johnson was bottled up a bit early, but ran well against a poor Panthers run defense. The Falcons front seven played very well today, but Johnson is still worth an RB2 start against them this week.

TEN - QB Matt Hasselbeck solid in Week 10
Source: The Associated Press
Tennessee Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck went 15-for-27 for 219 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Carolina Panthers in Week 10.

Hasselbeck has something good going with Damian Williams and he should be a decent bye week fill-in for Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees, or Matt Schaub.

HOU - RB Ben Tate productive Week 10
Source: The Associated Press
Houston Texans RB Ben Tate rushed for 63 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries in Week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tate scored late, although his owners couldn't like seeing Derrick Ward get carries for most of the game. He is still the primary backup to Arian Foster, but you have to wonder if he would be the feature back if Foster goes down.

HOU - RB Arian Foster a factor in run, pass game
Source: The Associated Press
Houston Texans RB Arian Foster rushed for 84 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries in Week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also caught four passes for 102 yards and one touchdown in the game.

Foster has resumed his #1 overall fantasy RB status after a tough start to the season with hamstring injuries. The late bye next week will have him firing on all cylinders entering the stretch run and fantasy playoffs.

PHI - RB LeSean McCoy gets into end zone
Source: The Associated Press
Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy rushed for 81 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 10.

The Eagles crushing loss was no fault of McCoy, who has been their best player on offense all year. He has arrived as an elite no brainer start, and that is continuing even while his QB is struggling.

MIA - RB Reggie Bush scores twice
Source: The Associated Press
Miami Dolphins RB Reggie Bush rushed for 47 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries in Week 10 against the Washington Redskins.

Bush didn't ran that effectively most of the afternoon, but he showed speed and elusiveness he has at his best moments on his 18-yard TD run. He'll be worth a start vs. the crumbling Bills run defense this week.

KC - RB Dexter McCluster produces in run, pass game
Source: The Associated Press
Kansas City Chiefs RB Dexter McCluster rushed for 45 yards on eight carries against the Denver Broncos in Week 10. McCluster also caught six passes for 48 yards in the game.

McCluster also fumbled, although Todd Haley did stick with him. The Chiefs are using him more like the way the Saints use Darren Sproles, which is a boon for his fantasy value.

STL - RB Steven Jackson rushes for more than 100 yards
Source: The Associated Press
St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson rushed for 128 yards on 27 carries against the Cleveland Browns in Week 10.

Jackson has been a beast since the Rams become more competitive. He will be a top 15 play despite the bad matchup vs. the stout Seahawks run defense this week.

STL - QB Sam Bradford has decent outing Week 10
Source: The Associated Press
St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford went 15-for-26 for one touchdown and one interception against the Cleveland Browns in Week 10.

Bradford suffered a new leg injury and got less accurate as the game went on. He has a good matchup vs. the Seahawks next week, but it is hard to trust him right now.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger solid in Week 10
Source: The Associated Press
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger went 21-for-33 for 245 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 10 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Roethlisberger was efficient, especially on third and long, and he spread the ball around. He had another TD pass to Jerricho Cotchery called back by a penalty and performed well against a tough defense. His fantasy numbers weren't great, but he is still a QB1 entering the bye.

DAL - WR Dez Bryant plays well Week 10
Source: The Associated Press
Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant caught six passes for 74 yards and one touchdown against the Buffalo Bills in Week 10.

Bryant looked unstoppable at times and bailed out Romo on a bad throw to turn it into an early TD. He is a borderline WR1 and the kind of player you try to talk yourself into playing every week.

BUF - QB Ryan Fitzpatrick struggles in Week 10
Source: The Associated Press
Buffalo Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick went 20-for-31 for 146 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 10.

Fitzpatrick started the year red hot, but he has come back to earth. The timing is terrible for the Bills organization as they just committed more than twenty million guaranteed dollars to the Harvard product. He is borderline droppable entering the cold weather segment of the Bills schedule.
