Week 9: Thursday Updates

One more day until the weekend, and only 2 more days to get your lineups set folks.  Lots to cover so here we go:

OAK - RB Darren McFadden unlikely to play
Source: SportingNews.com - Steve Corkran
Updating a previous report, Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden (foot) is unlikely to play in Week 9 after missing practice again Wednesday, Nov. 2. He left the facilities Wednesday on crutches and in a protective boot.

Holding McFadden out against the Broncos would make Michael Bush the team's starter. Bush is a very capable back who is strong, fast, and has a bullish mentality. If McFadden doesn't play it also makes rookie RB Taiwan Jones a nice 'what the heck' flex option for fantasy owners.

HOU - WR Andre Johnson still day-to-day
Source: HoustonTexans.com - Nick Scurfield
Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said WR Andre Johnson (hamstring) is still considered day-to-day at this point. Johnson did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 2, because he worked out Monday, Oct. 31.

Johnson's playing status is unknown at this time, but it wouldn't surprise us if he misses a couple of more weeks with this hamstring injury.

BAL - WR Lee Evans not practicing
Source: Carroll County Times - Aaron Wilson
Baltimore Ravens WR Lee Evans (ankle) was not participating during the media-access portion of practice Wednesday, Nov. 2.

Evans fantasy owners (all 2 of you) need to let him go. He's not been able to stay healthy and is being replaced by rookie WR Torrey Smith.

CLE - RB Peyton Hillis doesn't practice
Source: The Associated Press
Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns RB Peyton Hillis (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 2, in the portion open to the media. He was dressed in sweats, and his status for Week 9 is unknown.

His status for Week 9 is uncertain at this time. The team could be forced to start 'Silent G' Chris Ogbonnaya against the Texans. We may also see the newly acquired Thomas Clayton get a few carries.

CLE - RB Montario Hardesty expected to miss several weeks
Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Tony Grossi
Cleveland Browns RB Montario Hardesty (calf) is expected to miss at least two weeks because of his calf injury.

This is the story of Montario Hardesty. He's very gifted physically, but has a long injury history dating back to his college days at Tennessee.

TB - RB LeGarrette Blount practices
Source: The Associated Press
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB LeGarrette Blount (knee) was able to practice Tuesday, Nov. 1, and he is expected to play in Week 9 against the New Orleans Saints.

Blount has a chance to emerge as an RB1 down the stretch because the Bucs are going to give him a chance to be the third-down back with Earnest Graham out for the season. The Saints are a good matchup for Blount to run roughshod over and he should be in everyone's lineups this week.

DEN - Julius Thomas practices
Source: DenverBroncos.com
Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas (ankle) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Nov. 2.

Thomas was back on the field last week, but it was clear his high ankle sprain is still bothering him.

WAS - QB John Beck to start
Source: The Washington Post - Mike Jones
Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said QB John Beck will start in Week 9.

Beck may have a short leash if he struggles against the 49ers. We could be seeing Rex Grossman return to the field as the team's starting QB if Beck doesn't start playing better to help the team get on the winning track.

MIA - Daniel Thomas practicing
Source: South Florida Sun-Sentinel - Omar Kelly
Miami Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas (hamstring) is participating in practice Wednesday, Nov. 2, but it is not known if he will be limited.

The team will likely ease Thomas back into the lineup this week. That means more touches for Reggie Bush and perhaps a few for Steve Slaton.

CLE - RB Chris Ogbonnaya could start Week 9
Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Tony Grossi
Cleveland Browns RB Chris Ogbonnaya could start in Week 9 if RB Peyton Hillis (hamstring) is not able to play in the game.

We could see both Ogbonnaya and the newly acquired Thomas Clayton get the carries for the Browns as they face the Texans in week 9. 'Silent G' Ogbonnaya is a versatile back, and the former college WR makes for a good target out of the backfield. Clayton is a big, bruising RB with good straight line speed.

ARI - Beanie Wells not at full strength
Source: SportingNews.com - Kent Somers
Arizona Cardinals RB Beanie Wells (knee) will miss practice time for the rest of the season, and he admitted that he isn't as explosive as he was before the injury. RBs LaRod Stephens-Howling, Alfonso Smith and Chester Taylor will likely be used more as a result.

Wells looked like he couldn't quite get to the corner or accelerate to full speed, but he was still more than adequate last week, so he's probably a hold even though he hasn't played well through injuries in the past.

NYG - WR Mario Manningham misses practice
Source: KFFL.com
New York Giants WR Mario Manningham (illness) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 2.

Manningham should be good to go with a terrific matchup vs. the Patriots this week.

TB - Looking to get WR Arrelious Benn more involved
Source: St. Petersburg Times - Stephen Holder
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris said the team needs to get WR Arrelious Benn more involved in the offense because he is one of the biggest playmakers on the team.

Benn is aggressive and explosive with the ball in his hands, but he has been replaced by Dezmon Briscoe as of late when the Bucs are in catch up. We'll see if that changed this week vs. the Saints.

JAX - WR Mike Sims-Walker to IR
Source: The Florida Times-Union
The Jacksonville Jaguars placed WR Mike Sims-Walker (illness) on the Injured Reserve Wednesday, Nov. 2.

Sims-Walker had a great 2009, but he is almost dead to us in the fantasy world after his steep dropoff last year and total implosion this year.

NE - RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis limited
Source: Patriots.com
New England Patriots RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis (toe) was limited during practice Wednesday, Nov. 2.

With Green-Ellis limited we could see more from Kevin Faulk.

DEN - RB Willis McGahee limited
Source: DenverBroncos.com
Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos RB Willis McGahee (hand) was limited during practice Wednesday, Nov. 2.

McGahee's playing status for week 10 is uncertain at this moment. The team needs to get him back on the field ASAP. Knowshon Moreno isn't an exciting fantasy option, and is miscast as a featured or starting RB.

BUF - RB Fred Jackson expects to return
Source: The Associated Press
Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson thinks he has 'an assurance' that the team will restructure his contract. However, Jackson does not have a timetable for when it will happen after having a meeting with general manager Buddy Nix three weeks ago. Jackson has two years left on his current deal.

Jackson is the heart and soul of the Bills. They need to do whatever it takes to make him happy with a new contract.

CHI - WR Earl Bennett cleared to play
Source: ESPNChicago.com - Jeff Dickerson
Chicago Bears WR Earl Bennett (chest) has been cleared to play and expects to be active for Week 9.

Bennett's return to the lineup further clouds the WR situation in Chicago. He has great chemistry with QB Jay Cutler dating back to their days together in college at Vanderbilt, and he could continue to be a favorite target. His return could negatively impact the number of targets for Roy Williams.

NYG - RB Ahmad Bradshaw to miss practice
Source: New York Daily News - Ralph Vacchiano
New York Giant RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) will not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 2. Head coach Tom Coughlin said Bradshaw’s foot is swollen and sore.

This foot injury could lead to more touches for Brandon Jacobs in the coming weeks.
